Our services are evidence-based and tailored to you.

We work hard to cultivate a space where you can be honest with yourself, where you can reflect on your concerns as well as your hopes, and where you can find partnership to move forward.

Below you’ll find information about our basic services as well as our clinicians' primary areas of focus. Should you have questions or want to discuss anything further, we’re here for you.

Individual Therapy

Veteran participating in individual therapy

An individual therapy session is a guided conversation that aims to meet you where you are right now. We’ll work together to identify behavioral patterns, to process emotions, and to introduce practical tools to help you navigate everyday life. This is your safe space to focus on old and new challenges, and to discover a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships.

Is Individual Therapy Right for You?

Individual therapy may be a good fit if you're an adult experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, burnout, or life transitions. Maybe you feel stuck in old patterns, overwhelmed by change, or simply want a supportive space to understand yourself better. No prior diagnosis is needed - just a willingness to show up.

Couples Therapy

Each session is a conversation centered on you and what you're experiencing right now. Together, we'll explore what's been feeling challenging, uncover patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and develop practical tools you can use in everyday life. Drawing from cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness-based approaches, our work is collaborative, supportive, and tailored to your unique needs.

Is Couples Therapy Right for You?

Couples therapy may be a good fit if you and your partner feel stuck in recurring conflicts, struggle to communicate effectively, or have grown emotionally distant. You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many couples seek support to strengthen their relationship, navigate life transitions, rebuild trust, improve intimacy, or better understand one another.

EMDR

Face of young person focusing their gaze

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process and heal from distressing experiences that may continue to affect your thoughts, emotions, and daily life. Rather than focusing only on talking through difficult memories, EMDR uses guided bilateral stimulation—such as eye movements or tapping—to help your brain reprocess those experiences so they become less overwhelming.

Is EMDR Right for You?

EMDR may be a good fit if past experiences continue to affect how you feel, think, or respond in the present. You might notice persistent anxiety, difficult memories, self-doubt, strong emotional reactions, or patterns that don't seem to change despite your best efforts.

Anxiety

Whether situational or persistent, anxious feelings can be very disruptive to our health and well-being.

Anxiety can feel like persistent worry, racing thoughts, physical tension, restlessness, or a sense that something bad is about to happen even when there is no immediate danger. While anxiety is a normal part of life, it can become overwhelming when it begins to interfere with work, relationships, decision-making, or the ability to enjoy everyday experiences.

At Sunwell Counseling, we use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and somatic techniques to help you regain control over your thoughts so that you can feel like you again. We help you to understand how your brain’s survival systems can sometimes invite anxious feelings and what you can do to neutralize the effects. Together, we can help you to feel more grounded and to foster a more durable sense of well-being.

Depression

Symptoms of depression are very common, but the underlying causes are unique to each person.

Depression can impact every area of life, often showing up as persistent sadness, low energy, loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed, difficulty concentrating, changes in sleep or appetite, and feelings of hopelessness or disconnection. While everyone's experience is unique, depression can make it difficult to feel like yourself and fully engage in daily life.

At Sunwell Counseling, we use evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based techniques to help you better understand your thoughts and emotions, develop healthier coping strategies, and reconnect with what matters most to you. Together, we'll work toward creating meaningful, lasting change and improving your overall well-being.

Emerging Adults

Young people face intense pressures on the path towards independence and need compassionate support.

We understand that the transition into adulthood is marked by significant change, uncertainty, and self-discovery. As emerging adults, most young people are navigating new responsibilities, career decisions, higher education, relationships, identity development, financial stress, and increased independence.

At Sunwell Counseling, we offer a safe and supportive environment to explore these difficulties. By applying a variety of therapeutic modalities, our goal is to help you better understand yourself, develop healthy coping strategies, and build a life that aligns with your values.

Insomnia

Trouble falling and staying asleep can lead to significant daytime distress, especially when the symptoms persist over time.

Insomnia can make it difficult to fall asleep, stay asleep, or wake feeling rested, leaving you feeling exhausted, irritable, and unable to function at your best. Poor sleep can affect your mood, concentration, relationships, and overall quality of life, making even everyday tasks feel more challenging.

At Sunwell Counseling, we use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), the gold standard treatment for chronic insomnia. CBT-I helps identify and change the thoughts and behaviors that interfere with healthy sleep, so you can develop lasting sleep habits and wake feeling more rested, energized, and prepared for the day ahead.

Men's Issues

Modern masculinity requires men to show up well as individuals, as partners, as fathers, and as friends.

Many men experience pressure to meet expectations around success, independence, emotional strength, or providing for others. These expectations can make it difficult to talk openly about stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, grief, or life transitions.

At Sunwell Counseling, we offer a confidential, supportive space to explore these experiences, strengthen emotional well-being, and develop healthier ways of coping and connecting with others. Certain therapeutic modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) are especially helpful in developing skills to better navigate these challenges.

Phone & Social Media Overuse

Screens grab our attention and hold it far longer than we’d like, blocking us from living the life we intended.

We know that phones and social media can be valuable tools for connection, learning, and entertainment, but excessive use can contribute to stress, distraction, poor sleep, reduced productivity, and feelings of anxiety, loneliness, or social comparison. Some of these effects can be the result of behavioral addictions, so it’s important to have the right support as you seek to improve your relationship with the underlying technology.

If your phone and social media use is beginning to interfere with your relationships, work, school, or overall well-being, Sunwell Counseling can help you better understand your habits and develop a healthier, more intentional relationship with technology.

Relationships

Relationships thrive on connection, and when communication breaks down or old patterns take over, even the strongest relationships can begin to feel disconnected.

Every relationship experiences challenges, whether it's communication difficulties, recurring conflict, loss of connection, or navigating major life transitions. Couples counseling provides a supportive space to better understand one another, strengthen your relationship, and develop healthier ways of communicating and resolving conflict.

At Sunwell Counseling, we use the Gottman Method, a research-based approach to couples therapy that helps partners improve communication, rebuild trust, deepen emotional connection, and create a stronger, more fulfilling relationship. Whether you're working through a specific challenge or simply want to strengthen your partnership, we're here to help you grow together.

Trauma

Overwhelming experiences can linger for years, and affect us mentally, emotionally, and physically.

Trauma can leave a lasting impact on how we see ourselves, others, and the world around us. Whether from a single distressing event or experiences that have accumulated over time, trauma can show up as anxiety, emotional distress, difficulty trusting others, feeling disconnected, unwanted memories, nightmares, or feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. Healing from trauma is possible, and you do not have to navigate that process alone.

At Sunwell Counseling, we specialize in trauma-focused therapy using evidence-based approaches including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). These approaches help you process painful experiences, reduce the emotional impact of trauma memories, and develop a healthier understanding of yourself and your story. We have specialized experience supporting survivors of sexual trauma and provide a compassionate, safe space to heal, rebuild trust, and reconnect with yourself.

Veteran's Issues

Mental health challenges arising from combat and military service can lead to social and workplace stresses.

Military service can shape every part of a person's life, and the transition home can bring unique challenges that are difficult to navigate. Veterans may experience the lasting impact of combat, military sexual trauma, deployment experiences, or the challenges of adjusting to civilian life. These experiences can show up as PTSD symptoms, anxiety, difficulty reconnecting with loved ones, changes in identity or purpose, emotional numbness, or feeling misunderstood by those around you.

At Sunwell Counseling, we provide trauma-informed care for veterans navigating the impact of military service. Using evidence-based approaches including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and other trauma-focused techniques, we help you process difficult experiences, reduce the impact of painful memories, and reconnect with the person you are beyond your service. We provide a supportive space to honor your experiences, build on your resilience, and navigate the next chapter of life with greater clarity and connection.
